CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDI.NG 'tlTLE 18 (ZONING CODB) REGARDING MEDICAL ANO PRO-F.ESSIO.NAL OFF.ICES GRAN.DFATHERED IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES WHEREAS, the definitions of medical and professional offices in the zoning code have been amended to allow product testing and analysis and prototy·pe development 1 and WHEREAS, the Council does not wish to have such expanded definitions applicable to medical and professional uses which remain in residential zones by virtue of special requirements ("grandfather clauses"). NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alt.o does ORDAIN: SECTION 1. Section l8ol2o070(a} [R-1 Special Requirements) of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to read: (a) Professional and medical office uses, (except roduct testin and anal sis .1'nd _£rototype develot­ ment , ex1st1ng on the effect1ve date of this sect on ancr-which, prior to that date, wece lawful conforming permitted uses or conditional uses operating subject to a conditional use permit, or which uses were, prior to the effective date of this section, located in an R-1 district which wa.s imposed by reason of annexation of the property to the city without benefit of pre­ zoning and which, prior to the date of annexation, were lawful conforming ~rmitted uses or conditional uses operating subject to a.conditional use permit, shall be deemed to be conforming uses. SECTION 2. Section 18.17.0?0(a) [R-2 Special Require•ents) of the Palo Alto Muncipal Code is hereby amended to read: (a.) SECTION 8. Section 18.29.070(a) [RM-5 Special Requirements] of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended to read: (a) Professional and medical office uses, (exceet product testing and analysis, and prototype develop.= mentJ, existing on the effective date of this section ana-which, prior to that date, were lawful conforming permitted uses or conditional uses operating subject to a conditional use permit, or which uses were, prior to the effective date of this section, located in an RM-5 district which was imposed by r$ason of annexation of the property to the city without benefit of prezoning, and which, prior to the date of anne~ation, were lawful conforming permitted uses or conditional uses operating subject to a conditional use permit,, sha~P be deemed to .. be confor~ing uses. SECTION 9. The Council hereby finds that this ordinance_ will have no significant adverse environmental impact .. SECTION IO. This ordinance shall become effective upon the commencem~~t of the thirty-first day a.fter the day of its pa$sage ..
