ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF T~H~E~C~I~T~Y-O~F PALO ALTO
AMENDING CHAPTER 6.20 OF TI:IE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL
CODE BY ADDiNG A NEW SECTION 6.20.045 TO REQUIRE
REMOVAL OF DOG DEFECATION BY OWNEP.S AND THE CARRYING
OF AN APPROPRIATE CONTAINER FON. THAT PURPOSE
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Findings. It is hereby found and declared to be
inimical to the puolic health, safety and beauty of the City of
Palo Alto to permit the deposit and accumulation of dog feces
anywhere upon the public or private property of the City of Palo
Alto.
SECTION 2. A new section is hereby added to Chapter 6.20 of
tne Palo Aito--Municipal Code which shall be numbered and which
shall read as follo~s=
Sect1on 6.20.045. DOS defecation to be removed by
owners.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person owning or hav
ing control or custody of any dog to permit the animal
to defecate upon the public property of this City or
upon the private property of another unless the person
i..,.ediately removes the feces and properly disposes of
it:
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to walk a dog
on public property of this City or upon the private
property of another without carrying, at all times, a
s~itable container or other suitable instrument for
the re.oval and disposal of dog feces• '
(c) Visually disabled persons who use Seeing Eye
Guide Dogs are exeapt from this section.
(d) Notwiths~andifig ant other Pt"Ovisions, ?f this
code, every v1olat1on o any . of the prov1s1.ons of
this section shall be an iilfraction. punishable as
follows:

Section 3. The Council finds that adoption of this
Ordinance 1s not a project under the California Environmental
Quality A.ct.
Section 4.. The ot·dinance shall becOtae effective upon the
co .. ence•ent of che thirty-first (31st) day after its passage.
