ORDINANCE OF THE C.JUNCIL OF n!E CITY Of PALO ALTO
AMENDING SECTION 4.10.050 OF TtlE PALO 1\LTO M.UNICI
PAL CODE ·ro PROHIBIT PEDDLING AND SOLICITING 00
CERTAIN CITY STREETS ON SUNDAY, J-".NUARY 20, 1985
BETWEEN THE flOURS Of 9:00 A.M. AND 9:00 P. .. M. .. MD
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, on January 20, 1985 t.he Super Bo~o;~l will be helrl at Stan
ford Stadium; and
WHEREAS, this ovent is anticipated to qenerat~ huge cro~ds; and
WHEREAS, certain ped·astrian routes to the stadium are expected to
be heavily impacted by vehicular and pedestrian tr-af f i:.c; and
WllER.f::AS, if solicitors and peddlers ·oter~ permitted to use these
impacted routes, the result would be blocked side~alks, creating
potential jeopardy for pedestria.ns and r.earb:t motorists.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City ot Palo Alto does ORDAIN
as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 4.10.050 is amended by addin·~ theret:.o subsec
tion (f) which shall read as follows;
(f) No person shall p6ddle or solicit on the
f,/tlowing streets 0r sidewalkS abutting said
streets on sunday, Januar)' . 20, 198.5 between the
hours of 9:00 a.m~ ·and :; :00 p .l'l.:
1. El Caraino Ro.al,
Avenue to Churchill Avenuei
froll Universitx·
2. Embarcadero Road, fro• El Ca•ino
Real to Middlefield R<;>ad;
3. Quarry Road; and
4. Arboretum Road.
SECTION 2~ The Council h~reby finds that none of the provisions
of this ordinance will have a significant effect on the environ~Mmt.
SECTION 3. B~csed on the reast:.ns set forth above, the Counci 1 ·
declares t.hat the ordinance adopted herein is necessary. and an eaet·
gency measure to protect. the public peace, health and saf~ ty and shall
be effectl.ve immediately upon its adoption.
