ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF. THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING SECTION 18.08.040 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICI
PAL CODE (THE ZONING MAP) TO CHANGE THE ZONE CLAS
SIFICATION OF CERTAIN 'PROPERTIES BETWEEN HAWTHORNE
AVENUE AND LYTTON A1.7ENUE FROM RM-4 TO RMD( NP)
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follo~s:
SECTION l. Section 18.08.040 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, the
"Zoning Map," is hereby amended by changing the zoning of certain prop
erties between Hawthorne Avenue and Lytton Avenue, as shown on the map
.lttached hereto, marked Exhibit "A" and incorporated herein by this
reference, from RM-4 (Medium Density Multiple-Family Residence Dis
trict) to RMD(NP) (Two Unit Multiple-P3mily Neighborhood Preservation
Combining District).
SECTION 2. Minor Sl.ibdivisions of land t.hat received prelLminary
parcel map approval from the Dire.-:::tor of Planning and Cormnunity En
vironment pursuant to 7>alo Alto Municipal Coae Section 21.12.090\e)
before the effective date of this ordinance shall be processed pursuant
to the zoning in effect on the date of such approval.
SECTION J. If a project submitted an application for a buildin9
permit on or before October 30, 1984, such project shall be processed
pursu~nt to the zo~ing in effect on· the date of su.ctt subntittal. If
such a project is approved.a.nd built, it shall be deemed to be a '!::On~
forming use. Such use s!iall. be permitted to. remod€tl, ilaprovo or re:..;.
place site improvement's on· the same site, without necessity to 0011ply
with .site development regulations for continual use and occupancy by
the same use; provided, that any S\~Ch remodelin9, improve.ent or re• ·.
placement shall not. resul.t · in increased floor area, number of dwelling
units, height, length or. an}' 'other increase in the size of the i~rov:,_;;
ment.
S5:CTION 4. The Council. fings that the ·cezooing of the above pr;op-
erty is consistP.nt with the adopt~d C:omprehen~ive Plan of the City of ·· · ·•
Palo Alto.
SECTiON 5. The Council her,eQy finds that this change will hav.a oo
significaht adverse environmental impact. ·

SECTION 6~ This ordinance shall become effective upon the co.
mencement of the thirty-first day after the day of its pass~ge.
