AMENDING CHAPTRR 18.45 (.SERVICE OJMMERCIAL DISTRICT
REGULATIONS) or nu: l"At.O ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE TO
LIMIT THE SQUARE FOOTAGE Of CER"rAIM OFFIC£ USES
WHEREAS, the City Council is concerned about e.ployaent and traf~
fie growth generated by t.he increasing n•.ia.ber of new office uses ~nd
conversion to large cff ice usoe» in the Service Cormier.cial zo1aes
throughout the City: and
WHr~REAS, the Council directed that d land use study be conducted
to detecmine the impact of current zoning regulations on office devel
opment; and
WHEREAS, after consideri~g the land use study, the Council wishes
to limit the further expansion of qenerall business and adrnir.!strative
offices in the Service Commercial z.ones;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council o{ the City of Palo Alto 6oss ORDAIN
as follows:

cial District} of the Palo Alto ~unicipal Code is hereby amended to
read:

following additional regulations:

SECTION 4. The regulations contai~ed in this ordinance shal~ not
apply'-to a proposed new off ice use -whose a9pl icat ion f:'>r archi tee tural
review pursuant to Cha:;>ter 16.48 of the Palo :\lto Municipal Code was
received and accepted as complete before June 5, 1964.
SECTION 5. 'rhe Council finds that none of the provisions of this
ordinance will have a significant environmental impac~.
SEC'l'I0N 6. This ordinance shall becorne eff~ctive upon the coa
mencement of the thirty-first day after ttie day of its passage and
shall expire two years from its effective date.
