ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF CITY OF PAI.O Ai.TO
AMENDING THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE TO ESTABLISH
SPECIAL SPEED ZONES
Be nrdained by the Councilof the City of Palo Alto as follows:
Section 1. Section 10.56.010 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is
bereb·y~amended to read as follows:

State twenty-five mph primo: facie speed limit
justified.
State speed limit decrease~ (thirty mph).
State speed limit decreased.
State speed limit increased.

justified.. It is determined that the state twenty-five mph
prima facie speed limit for business or residence dist~icts
is justified, as required by state law, with respect to the

Section 2 .• Section 10~56~020 o.f the Palo Alto Municipal Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
10.56.020 State apeed liait decreased. It is deter
mined and justified upon the basis of engineering and traffic
~urveys conducted by the city, as required by state law, and
completed on the dates shown below, that the maximum speed
limit applicable under state law is more than is reasonable
or safe upon the following streets or portions of streets,

and that the following speed limits would facilitate the
orderly movement of vehicular traffic and are reasonable and

Section 3. Section 10.56.030 of the P~lo Alto Municipal Code is
hereby amendecf to read as followJ:
10a56.030 State speed lisit in~n~ased.. It is df.:ter
mined and justified upon the basis of engineering and traffic
surveys conducted by the City, as required by state law, and
completed on the dates shown below, that a speed greater than
that provided by state would facilitate the orderly movement
of traf&ic and would qe ~:easonable and safe upon the follow
ing streets or pot·tions of streets, and it is declar-ed that
the prima facie speed limit sha.ll be as set forth in this
section, except for school zones, on the streets or parts of
streets designated in this section when signs are erected
giving notice thereof:
