ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF TH8 CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE BUDGET fOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1980-81 TO
PROVIDE FUNDS TO CONDUCT A CABLS T.V. ENGINF.ERING
AND FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR MUNICIPAL

WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article III
of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council on June 23, 1980,
did adopt a budget for fiscal year 1980-eir and
WHEREAS, this Council wishes to investigate municipal ownership of
cable T.v. as an alternative to licensing a private company to provide
cable T.V. service to Palo Alto residents~ and
WHEREAS, the results of a municipal ownership study would deter
mine whethe~ o~ not a municipally-owned CATV system is feasible for
Palo Alto from both an engineering and financial standpoint~ and
WHEREAS, the r~sults of that study a.1ong with staff recommenda··
tions would be brouqht back to Council within six months;

SECTION 2. The Council. finds this is not a project for purposes
of the-carTf()rnia Environmental Quality !>.ct. and !1(> ~-:environmental as
sessment is necessary.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall become effective immediately as
providecrTnsection 12 of Article III of the Charter and section
2.04.375 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code.
