August 21, 2002
The City Council of the City of Palo Alto met on this date in the Mitchell Park Community Center – Main Hall at 7:00 p.m.

SPECIAL MEETING
1. Overview and Community Discussion of Proposed Plan for
Mitchell Park Library and Community Center An overview of the needs for the Mitchell Park Library was
provided by Chair of the Library Advisory Commission Tina Kass. Lynn Torin, Chair of the Parks and Recreation Commission
summarized the needs for the community center at Mitchell Park. David Shnee of Group 4 Architects, the architect for the conceptual design, summarized the process used to develop the conceptual design, explained the key design values and reviewed the major components of the design. A question and answer period
followed, with questions focusing on issues such as: tennis and paddle tennis court location; location of the building on the site; size of the buildings and program; need for expanded
facilities; long-term costs; and various other issues. No action required.
