Even if my families costs to transport my son, via PAL, were to double or triple or
even quadruple, it would still be less expensive than the second best option. If the
service needs more money to pay workers or provide cars, than raising the rates isfar better than canceling the service.
I am also aware that raising the rates may be really difficult for others who may get
priced out of using the service. I believe those who need the service would be morethan happy to comply with a more strict age or disability protocol. I am aware ofpeople gaming the system by being able to just push "disabled" on the app and get a
massive discount. Allowing that has enabled people to cheat to get the service for
free, while others who really are disabled have benefited greatly. PLEASE DONOT PUNISH THE CITIZENS OF PALO ALTO WHO APPROPRIATELY USEPAL BY KILLING IT BECAUSE OF THE GREED AND SELFISHNESS OF
OTHERS.
Thank you for reading this and for wrestling with this issue. I know I and myfamily are NOT alone in expressing our desire to keep PAL functioning. I also
want to add that there was not nearly enough notice about the vote on this issue to
the general public. I only found out about this meeting and the issue last Friday.
Please do not let this vote happen without more public awareness and anopportunity to express their opinion. If nothing else, please postpone the vote so
those with actual experience and need, like ourselves, can let you know how
valuable PAL is and the huge civic benefit is to the citizenry of Palo Alto.
Thank You,
Alex Van Riesen (on behalf of Joshua Van Riesen)
plan to surround him with highly dedicated and competent fascist officials. The promised “massdeportation” of 15 million people would be the largest forced displacement in human history apart fromthat of World War II. And the threats to deport and/or intern all protesters are deadly serious.
Because elections can influence policy outcomes, the ruling class is aggressively suppressing the rightto vote and influencing young people to believe that voting makes no difference. Disenfranchisingvoters is about disarming the working class – especially people of color – and opening the door tocrushing resistance by reinstituting the extreme violence of the Jim Crow era.
Electoral campaigns are also a decisive battleground in the war of ideas. The ruling class tirelesslyinvests tens of billions of dollars to use elections to promote its message of racism, division, classhatred and war. Revolutionaries have a responsibility to use them equally militantly to promote classunity, class political organization and the vision of a peaceful and cooperative society.
EMERGENCE OF THIRD PARTIES
Entering the political arena to fight for its basic needs is developing the self-confidence of the workingclass as a social force. As author Alice Walker said, the most common way people give up their poweris by thinking they don’t have any. Election campaigns are a powerful opportunity for workers toaccumulate knowledge and experience of their own strength.
The social movement is polarizing the Democratic Party and ultimately creating the conditions for theemergence of a significant third party, one that will be composed of forces currently both inside andoutside the Democrats. This will accelerate the breaking apart of old alliances of workers with corporateDemocrats, while also serving as a vehicle to pull together the scattered economic struggles into unitedpolitical struggles. We should not allow current tactical differences over (for example) the Harriscampaign to divide the people fighting against fascism and for political independence in the long run.
Even as we rally people to vote, the November election aftermath is likely to test our ability to rapidlyshift back to non-electoral tactics. If Trump and Project 2025 win, we may well not even have electionsagain for a very long time. And if Harris wins, we will probably have to take the battle to the streets toensure the results are respected and Harris actually gets inaugurated. And if Harris wins, we will haveto continue fighting to force Harris to protect migrants and the planet and redirect the military budgetfrom genocide overseas to meeting human needs at home.
Now is the time to organize local, regional, and national collectives of revolutionaries to summarize thelessons and to plan next steps. The revolution develops on the basis of a continuous practicalmovement against all the structures of oppression, ultimately guided by a vision of creating a newsociety that is based on the abundance made possible by the new technologies. The current system isdesigned to crush our humanity, but until we have the political power to abolish it, we have to use everyold form available, including elections, to build the power we need to create the better world we believein.

The transportation service connects residents to essential locations such as hospitals, schools, community centers,
and shopping areas.
Transit is accessible and inclusive, allowing people of all ages and incomes to get around, promoting social equity.
The transportation provided by Palo Alto Link helps reduce traffic by encouraging residents to leave their cars at
home. This reduction in private vehicle use also reduces carbon emissions, aligning with Palo Alto’s sustainability
goals and supporting a cleaner, greener city. Demonstrating that transportation makes it easier for residents to access
commercial centers, boosting commerce and generating traffic for local businesses.
Continuing the service can attract more visitors, boosting tourism and helping to keep the city’s economy active and
growing.

Why weren’t we notified immediately?
Why did the cleanup continue round the clock when the City’s update said it wouldn’t?
Why are they saying our neighborhood is an “industrial area”?
How could this be allowed to happen, particularly when the city repeatedly touts its green friendliness
and watershed protection efforts?
What is being done to prevent this from happening again?
And how will Tesla be held accountable, given that it is illegal to store Sodium Hydroxide in Palo Alto
without a permit, which Tesla didn't have?
And who will assess the effect on the frogs, birds, crickets, and other wildlife that rely on the creek and
how with their habitat be restored.
The city's update says “Resident notifications were provided on Wednesday, October 23 at
approximately 5 p.m.” Neither Jonathan Brown nor I nor anyone else we have talked to were notified.
So we seek clarification around that claim.
Just in case people are not familiar with "lye" (from Wikipedia): Sodium hydroxide is a
highly corrosive base and alkali that decomposes lipids and proteins at ambient temperatures and may
cause severe chemical burns.
Jonathan and I formally request a public meeting where Venturans, Barron Park residents, and other
interested residents may learn the truth and ask questions.

Hi
I have never paid a publisher apart from the ridiculous amount of money we gave Springer for Triple Helix, when THA hadfunds from Alex.
Assuming the Black Forest was part of your thesis, I think it would be a good candidate for publication by a University Press, especially one with an environmental and/or sustainability series. There would be a very modest royalty rate. That said, start atthe top.Look ups Rebecca Carson’s publisher and pitch as follow-up? Best way is “warm approach” through someoneknowledgeable to them recommending or an agent. Is the Frannkfurt book fair still on. They will be swarming there. Agentspublishers and all. I sole may first book to LITTLE BROWN, AT THE American SOCIOLOGY ASSOCIATIONS bookexhibits. Oh, see you want to go OA. If that is essential, you pay unless you have foundation or other sponsor.

Hi
Thank you for the paper and the attempt to have a collection of articles (in a book

For the framing, I suggest having some core questions every author should try to
address in their contribution.
@Henry: The future of the university and the university of the future needs anupdate, and that could be the Leitmotif for us all.
There are issues like the trend of networking, which we identified in the 90s,
which became a (place-based) innovative ecosystem (so the EU/
Entrepreneurial University can be a starter of socio-economic development
or a crucial element of it),
the necessary organisational adaptations of the EU to manage the
innovation system or be a crucial part of it (Technology Transfer, Incentives,
Research-based training triggered by federal programs, transformative
industry, and the showstoppers ( lack of strategic management, funding,
etc.).
Digitalization and the disruption of the concept of EU (What is the value of
data or buildings (place vs. remote work/ teaching, the user/ student
experience research data and interdisciplinary problem-based research
How to organise interaction and viability (communication, which is crucial for
innovation and triple helix dynamics (Loet) and framework conditions.
Pathologies: University as a business model – a good way?
University as a development model in countries that are not ready and/or
don’t provide the context (see my work with Chux on Africa and with Peter on
Slovenia), the pressure to publish, the disruption of other concepts like
citizen science, consulting and other functional equivalent elements that can
make the EU obsolete
Mushrooming of universities that provide professional training (for money or
paid by industry) and lack of upward mobility after the degree.
The shifting roles of agencies, resort research in ministries, Universities of
applied science and elite basic research organisations and research
universities like Cambridge or Max Planck, MIT, etc.). Expectation, strategy,
or just happening?
Etc.
My Part/ Use Cases:
I have 2 Entrepreneurial Universities in mind - one is TUM, the University of
Applied Sciences in Munich, Germany, and the other is the University of Bern in
Switzerland.
The data is confidential material, so I must think about how to work: I could get
one narrative interview each with the leading person, compare the mindset andcheck the framing depicted above. The context data (e.g., impact on theinnovative ecosystem, internal structure, etc.) and figures (KPI, rankings) are
open-access available.
We need a publisher that wouldn’t charge a fortune, Henry! Loet managed
to have this open-access Springer book. However, I don’t know the
background. Maybe you, as a prolific author (or a best-seller in their thinking…), canchange the above in a proper idea paper and talk to Springer OA and
negotiate?

Mosi please provide triple helix colleagues /collaborators with the. draft. I will shortly
provide a template for a secondary data analysis quantitative section that everyone
can pitch in on.
This may well result in more than one article, even the entrepreneurial university book
that publishers have been requesting for four decades. Ruefully Recall the 80’s call I
received from University of California Press while I was in Stanford Archives, offering a
contract, based on my Social Problems Journal article (UC Press published the third
ranking sociology journal at the time. ) I regret my off putting reply: need to collect
more data, every time I pass that since disconnected, but still in place artifact at the
Archive entrance
Ps Chris can you provide similar for Switzerland and/or Germany, even Europe,
reprising our last century iconic RP article

<Can Palo Alto Replicate Rio de Janeiro’s Classic Sustainability Achievement The Tijuca National Park.docx>
were notified. So we seek clarification around that claim.
Just in case people are not familiar with "lye" (from Wikipedia): Sodium hydroxide is a
highly corrosive base and alkali that decomposes lipids and proteins at
ambient temperatures and may cause severe chemical burns.
Jonathan and I formally request a public meeting where Venturans, Barron Park
residents, and other interested residents may learn the truth and ask questions.

Subject:Tesla spill into Matadero Creek

Questions still to be answered
City-wide Notification Needed
Supervisor Joe Simitian recently compared a situation to the movie Jaws, when the small town mayor tells
the police chief not to scare everyone by telling them what’s happening. Funny and apt here.
On Oct. 17, a Barron Park resident reported the spill to the City, and the Fire Dept Haz Mat team responded
immediately. No notice was given to the public or press until days after the spill occurred.
Days later, another resident saw clean-up workers and equipment in the Ventura neighborhood, a mile from
Tesla, and called Valley Water and the press. That was when the city residents became aware of the spill.
If individuals had not been alert and willing to take action, the spill may have been much worse, and the
public may have remained in the dark about it even longer.
The City has apologized for not having made notifications sooner to residents. I appreciate the City doingthis. However, notification of toxic spills into Palo Alto’s waterways, whether creek, pond or Bay, should
be subject to city-wide notifications and updates as soon as possible once an initial spill evaluation is made.
It is a new era of climate concerns and sustainability for the engineered and natural environment. When acreek’s riparian corridor winds through neighborhoods and crosses Palo Alto to the Bay, it is a City-wide
concern when compromised. All residents have a right to timely notice and update, no matter where they
live in town. This should be the protocol and practice for future spills.
How did spill happen?
Was there no required containment area or was the spill so large that it escaped the containment area?
The Chemicals
How do the substances spilled affect creek health and wildlife, including fish?
The Clean-up
The spill and clean-up extended further and further east, finally entirely crossing the Ventura neighborhood.
What was the basis for the plan to stop remediation once it reached Alma off Park Blvd (prior to the fire
hydrant incident below)?
The cleanup ended Friday afternoon, October 25th, due to a car hitting a fire hydrant that caused a large
water flow into the Creek, diluting and sweeping the toxic spill toward the Bay. What effect will the water
sweeping the toxics further along have?
Environmental Consequences
What effect does this spill have on Creek health, fish, birds, ducks and other wildlife that uses this riparian
quarter?
Prevention
Matadero Creek has had repeated toxic spills, directly or though storm drains - the natural upper Creek in
Barron Park and west to the mountains, the Creek Bypass at the south edge of SRP where this spill
happened, and the lower channelized Creek immediately east of El Camino entering the Ventura
neighborhood. All comprise a single Riparian Corridor where wildlife moves up and down from Bay to
Barron Park and beyond into the mountains. The adorable muskrats that built their den at the west edge of
Bol Park came up all the way through the corridor from the Bay. We must do better in preventing spills
getting into the creek.
What more can we do to substantially reduce spills into the creek and through the storm drain system?
Otherwise it will happen again and again.
