REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, November 21, 2024

CALL TO ORDER – Chair Gordon called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
AGENDA CHANGES, REQUESTS, DELETIONS – None.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS – None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES – October 29, 2024 PAC Special Meeting Minutes: Moved by Vice Chair
Shen, Second by Commissioner Waltuch. All in Favor.
STAFF COMMENTS – Staff provided an update on the status of the fresco conservation project at the
Roth Building. Physical protections and metal chain link fence were removed as the building
reconstruction project is nearing its completion. The art conservators completed the first phase of the
fresco conservation project and will be providing their final report to staff shortly.
ACTION:
1. Collection Maintenance – Staff provided a project history for Greg Brown’s mural titled
Garbage Collector located at 136 Hamilton Ave. The mural, originally painted in 1977, requires
conservation treatment. Staff summarized the previous repair and maintenance history for the
mural, its current physical condition of the mural, and the scope for the proposed conservation
treatment to be performed by Preservation Arts. Staff recommended that the PAC allocate
funding in the amount of $9,912 for the conservation treatment for the mural titled Garbage
Collector by artist Greg Brown. Moved: Vice Chair Shen; Second: Commissioner Smith. All in
Favor.
2. Code:ART Event Team – Staff updated the Commission on the format and scope of the
Code:ART media festival to be held in October 2025 and summarized the scope of tasks to be
performed by a qualified event production team to facilitate the planning and running of the
festival. Staff requested that the PAC approve allocation of funds in the amount of up to $25,000
for special events team staffing for Code:ART. Moved: Commissioner Stern; Second:
Commissioner de la Garza. All in Favor.
NON-ACTION:
3. Code:ART Artist Selection Update – Staff provided a summary of the artist application
and selection process for the large interactive art installation at Lytton Plaza and four
Urban Intervention projects for Code:ART 2025. The selection panel included former
Code:ART artists Nate Mohler and Paul Mans, gallerist Pamela Walsh, Commissioner
Lisa Waltuch, and CASP artist Mik Gaspay. With over a hundred applications submitted,
the selection process included a pre-panel by staff, online review and evaluation process
by the panel, followed by a selection panel meeting to discuss a short-listed roster of
applicants. Artists Oona Stern, Joshua Miller, Antonin Fourneau, and Shagun Singh were
recommended by the panel as Code:ART Urban Intervention artists based on their
rankings. Artist team Ksawery Komputeri from Poland was recommended for the Lytton
Plaza art installation. Staff will reach out to each artist to confirm feasibility of each
recommended project prior to moving forward with artist contracts.
COMMISSIONER QUESTIONS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, OR FUTURE ITEMS: Staff made an
announcement about the upcoming Let’s Glow SF light festival in San Francisco, December 6-15.
