PUBLIC ART COMMISSION
Thursday, May 21, 2015
SPECIAL MEETING

Commissioners Present: Jim Migdal. Ben Miyaji, Dara Silverstein, Nia Taylor, Loren
Gordon, Mila Zelkha
Commissioners Absent: Amanda Beard Ross
Staff present: Elise DeMarzo, Public Art Program Director
Nadya Chuprina, Public Art Program Assistant
CALL TO ORDER – The meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM by Chair Migdal.
ADDITIONS, CHANGES, REQUESTS, DELETIONS – Non-Action Item 3 was tabled until further
notice.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS – None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Commissioner Taylor made a correction to the April 16 Minutes:
Commissioners Kavanaugh and Silverstein had been absent, Commissioner Taylor had been present and
moved to approve the March 16 Minutes. Moved as Corrected: Vice Chair Miyaji moved to approve the
April 16 Minutes. Second: Chair Migdal. All in Favor.
SPECIAL ITEM: Chair Migdal welcomed two new commissioners: Mila Zelkha and Loren Gordon.
Chair Migdal introduced the new commissioners to the audience and spoke about their professional
background.
STAFF COMMENTS – None.
ACTION
1. Public Art Master Plan - Staff provided the background information for the Public Art Master
Planning process and outlined the following steps as part of the outreach phase of the year-long
project. Staff recommended the approval of extension of the scope of work to include an
additional public meeting and the additional management of the artist-led outreach project. Staff
requested additional funds in the amount of $5,000. Moved: Commissioner Taylor. Second:
Commissioner Zelkha. All in favor. Motion approved.
NON-ACTION
2. Discussion of Upcoming Study Session with City Council – Staff and Commission discussed
and coordinated the presentation details for the City Council Joint Study Session.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Staff announced the Anderson Collection offices tour to be coordinated with the Commission in July.
