HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION ACTION MINUTES Thursday, August 11, 2022 6:00 PM Commissioners Present: Eberle, Kraus, Savage Staff: Minka van der Zwaag, Alayna Cruz I. ROLL CALL II. AGENDA CHANGES, REQUESTS, DELETIONS MOTION: Vice Chair Eberle moved, seconded by Commissioner Savage, to move agenda item #5, Discussion of next steps for work plan item on Belonging, including initial steps on the Council Referral to research the lived experience of Asian American and Pacific Islanders, to the September 8, 2022, meeting. MOTION PASSED: 3-0 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES June 9, 2022 MOTION: Vice Chair moved, seconded by Commissioner Kraus, to move the approval of the June 9, 2022, minutes to the September 8, 2022, meeting. MOTION PASSED: 3-0 IV. BUSINESS 2) Adoption of a Resolution Authorizing Use of Teleconferencing for Human Relations Commission Meeting During Covid-19 State of Emergency. MOTION: Commissioner Kraus moved, seconded by Commissioner Savage, to Adopt a Resolution authoring the use of teleconferencing under Government Code Section 54953 (e) for the meeting of the Human Relations Commission and its subcommittees due to the Covid-19 declared state of emergency. Members of the public are welcome to attend this public meeting. 3) Consideration of HRC support of Multifaith Peace Picnic & Prayer Service on September 11, 2022, on King Plaza. MOTION: Commissioner Savage moved, seconded by Commissioner Kraus, to accept Human Relations Commission support of the Multifaith Peace Picnic and Prayer Service on September 11, 2022. MOTION PASSED: 3-0 4) Referral from the City Council on Recognizing Key Dates to Advance Race & Equity. The commission continued a discussion and consideration of motions on the Council referral in regard to the observance of current and future dates of remembrance and recognition. MOTION: Commissioner Kraus moved, seconded by Savage, to recognize the second Monday in October be recognized as Indigenous People’s Day and Columbus Day to be as inclusive as possible. MOTION PASSED: 2-1 MOTION: Vice Chair Eberle Moved, seconded by Commissioner Savage to revisit the conversation on the naming of the second Monday in October, feedback on how to celebrate the dates that Council referred to the HRC along with the consideration of a framework for reviewing holidays, remembrance and days of service at September HRC agenda. MOTION PASSED: 2-1 5) Agenda item number 5 moved to September 8, 2022, meeting 6) Report back from HRC members of the Police Chief interview panel, completed by Commissioner Savage V. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 7.45 pm
