HONORING PETER BALTAY
Architectural Review Board WHEREAS, The Architectural Review Board plays a critical role in shaping the built environment of Palo Alto
through the review of all new construction, and changes and additions to commercial, industrial, and multiple-family projects to ensure thoughtful designs and lasting community benefits; and
WHEREAS, Architectural Review Board members, as dedicated volunteers, expend significant personal time researching and reviewing plans, working with staff and community members, and helping applicants to improve proposed development plans that result in recommendations to the Director of Planning and Development Services and the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Peter Baltay brought to the Architectural Review Board the expertise of a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Columbia University, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington; and
WHEREAS, Peter Baltay brought over 30 years of practical architectural experience and in-depth project analysis to the review of development proposals and implementation of the City’s Context Based Design Criteria and other guidelines, to ensure orderly and harmonious development in the best interest of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, Peter Baltay served the City of Palo Alto as a member of the Architectural Review Board from
October 26, 2015, to June 2, 2025, serving as Vice Chair once, and Chair twice during his tenure, where he enhanced the meeting productivity with his masterful ability to organize complex topics, maintain focus, and guide discussions toward clear, actionable outcomes; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Architectural Review Board, Peter Baltay consistently offered creative and pragmatic solutions for the review of project applications and analysis. His insight ensured order and agreeable development in the best interest of Palo Alto.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Ed Lauing, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim appreciation to Peter Baltay for his outstanding public service and contribution rendered as an Architectural Review Board Member.
