HONORING DORIA SUMMA
Planning and Transportation Commission
WHEREAS, The Planning and Transportation Commission advises the City Council, Planning Director, and
Chief Transportation Official on land use and transportation matters, including the Comprehensive Plan zoning, transportation programs, and related matters; and
WHEREAS, Planning and Transportation Commissioners, as dedicated volunteers, expend significant personal time reviewing plans and ordinances, working with staff and community members, and helping to improve proposed development and transportation plans and regulations that result in recommendations to the Director of Planning and Development Services and the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Doria Summa moved to Palo Alto from the Midwest over 35 years ago and quickly became an active volunteer in her neighborhood, contributing in various roles including the Development Center Customer Advisory Group, the Comprehensive Plan Rewrite Group, and the Residential Parking Permit Committee; and
WHEREAS, Doria Summa’s deep civic engagement and commitment to her community led to her appointment by the City Council to Palo Alto’s Planning & Transportation Commission in 2016, where she has served faithfully through March 26, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Doria Summa served on the Planning and Transportation Commission for eight years, including as
Vice Chair from 2022-2023 and Chair from 2023-2024; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure on the commission, Commissioner Summa has distinguished herself as an innovative thinker, a passionate advocate for the community, and a knowledgeable, prepared, and fair leader who consistently collaborates with others in pursuit of the best outcomes for Palo Alto and its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Ed Lauing, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby extend appreciation to Doria Summa for her outstanding public service and contributions rendered as a Planning and Transportation Commissioner.
