HONORING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PALO ALTO UNIVERSITY
WHEREAS, Palo Alto University (PAU), was founded in 1975 as the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP) and has been a distinguished institution of higher education for 50 years, dedicated to advancing knowledge, promoting mental health, and preparing students for impactful careers in psychology, counseling, and related fields. Since its founding, PAU has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and community service; it has become a recognized leader in mental and behavioral health education and training; and
WHEREAS, PAU has provided vital mental health services to the community through its comprehensive training clinics, including its Community Clinic, e-Clinic, Sexual and Gender Identities Clinic, and La Clínica Latina, ensuring accessible and inclusive care for diverse populations; and
WHEREAS, PAU has fostered a culture of innovation reflective of its Silicon Valley roots, continuously evolving its academic programs, research initiatives, and clinical training to meet the changing needs of the mental and behavioral health fields. PAU committed to expanding educational opportunities, ensuring that students of all backgrounds have the resources, mentorship, and support needed to excel and make meaningful contributions to
society; and WHEREAS, the university's faculty, students, alumni, and staff have made significant contributions to the mental
and behavioral health fields, addressing critical societal challenges and enhancing well-being at local, national, and global levels. Palo Alto University has maintained strong partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and research institutions, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of mental and behavioral health education and advocacy; and WHEREAS, on its 50th anniversary, we recognize and celebrate the remarkable achievements of Palo Alto University and commend its continued dedication to educating the next generation of professionals in and advancing the science and practice of mental and behavioral health, including partnering with the City of Palo Alto to support youth mental health. NOW, THEREFORE I, Ed Lauing, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, do hereby recognize and honor the 50th Anniversary of Palo Alto University, commend its faculty, students, alumni, staff, and Trustees for their contributions to the field, and extend our best wishes for continued success in the years to come.
