GAMBLE GARDEN WHEREAS, in 1985, the historic property at 1431 Waverley Street, originally the home of Elizabeth Frances Gamble, was transformed into a nonprofit public garden through the vision, leadership, and generosity of the Garden Club of Palo Alto and the broader community; and WHEREAS, Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden has, for four decades, served as a vibrant, welcoming green space that is open to all, offering educational programs, horticultural resources, cultural events, and community gatherings in the heart of Palo Alto; and WHEREAS, Gamble Garden's 2.5-acre site, which features a historic home and both formal and demonstrational gardens, provides hands-on learning opportunities for children and adults alike and inspires thousands of annual visitors with its beauty and mission of stewardship, volunteerism, and environmental education; and WHEREAS, Gamble Garden depends on the dedication of hundreds of volunteers and a strong community support base, reflecting Palo Alto’s deeply held values of civic engagement, public-private partnership, and sustainable urban living; and WHEREAS, Gamble Garden boasts a model for nonprofit-public collaboration and continues to evolve through thoughtful investment in its future, including the forthcoming Horticultural Complex to better support its horticultural and educational mission; and WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto is proud to celebrate and recognize the 40th anniversary of Gamble Garden, a treasured community institution that enriches the lives of residents and visitors through beauty, education, and connection to nature. NOW, THEREFORE I, Ed Lauing, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, do hereby honor the 40th anniversary of Gamble Garden, and encourage all residents to recognize and celebrate Elizabeth F.
