HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-04-12 Palo Alto Arbor DayNational Arbor Day and California Arbor Day WHEREAS, trees that compose the urban forest of Palo Alto are an essential component of protecting function of natural systems; and WHEREAS, people’s interaction with trees results in benefits to mental and physical health, alertness, learning, mood, and care for the environment; and WHEREAS, the urban forest serves to bind all natural systems of our soil, air, water, wildlife, and people into a thriving community ecosystem; and WHEREAS, global environmental challenges such as climate change and atmospheric carbon increases need to be confronted locally by enabling natural processes to perform optimally; and WHEREAS, each year, “National Arbor Day” is celebrated by people throughout the nation, recognizing that forests and humans share an interdependence that should be nurtured; and WHEREAS, the ultimate success of Palo Alto is strongly correlated to the care of the natural resources that sustain us; and WHEREAS, on April 12th, 2025, the City of Palo Alto is observing California Arbor Day. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ed Lauing, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim April 12th as Palo Alto Arbor Day and urge all citizens; young adults in particular, to acknowledge the value of the urban forest, to care for trees and the environment, to support our City’s multi-faceted forestry program, and to plant trees for future generations.
