WHEREAS, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) including Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners,
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Certified Nurse-Midwives are trained and
qualified healthcare professionals who provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care. Their expertise and ability
to deliver care across specialties and populations have helped mitigate the impact of physician shortages, reduce
health disparities, and enhance healthcare outcomes; and
WHEREAS, APPs are highly educated healthcare providers who can assess, diagnose and treat patients.
Their comprehensive training, expertise, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams enable them to perform
critical roles within the healthcare system; and
WHEREAS, APPs unique ability to work in various settings, from major academic medical centers to rural
outpatient clinics, expands healthcare access to disadvantaged and underserved populations. Through their
training and resource advocacy, APPs have contributed to reducing healthcare disparities by addressing social
and economic health barriers; and
WHEREAS, APPs engage in research, quality improvement, educational projects, and leadership roles to
optimize safe healthcare delivery. These evidence-based projects are presented at professional conferences and
published in medical journals which help establish clinical guidelines aimed at improving healthcare outcomes at
the local, state, national, and international level; and
WHEREAS, in September 2017, Stanford Health Care pioneered and commemorated the first APP Week to
acknowledge, celebrate, and honor the hard work, commitment, and value of APPs. In 2021, APP Week expanded
to National APP Week in which healthcare organizations across the country, involving tens of thousands of APPs,
united in honoring the vital contributions of APPs to patient care. An annual award ceremony is held at both the
local and national levels to recognize APPs who made significant professional contributions towards advancing
the APP role.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Greer Stone, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto do hereby proclaim the fourth week
of September as Advanced Practice Provide Week in the City of Palo Alto. We honor and congratulate all
Advanced Practice Providers and commend them for their significant educational and medical care contributions
to the community.
