HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-06-01 Sibling Cities USA Day Proclamation Sibling Cities USA Day WHEREAS, Sibling Cities USA was established in 2021, and thereafter the City of Palo Alto resolved to enter the first-ever Sibling City relationship with Bloomington, Indiana, the two cities proclaiming themselves Sibling Cities in spring 2022; and WHEREAS, the cities of Palo Alto and Bloomington entered into a Sibling City relationship for the purpose of creating greater connection and mutual understanding between the residents of our two cities; and WHEREAS, the cities of Palo Alto and Bloomington have built connections in the areas of community, commerce, and civil discourse, including in particular the arts, business, and community service; and WHEREAS, Palo Alto hosted a Climate Summit in 2022 featuring the mayors of Palo Alto and Bloomington alongside Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Energy Ali Nouri and other leaders; and WHEREAS, in 2023, Palo Alto and Bloomington co-hosted three town halls where residents had deep discussions about Race and Belonging, Bridging Regional Divides, and Climate Action; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Greer Stone, Mayor of Palo Alto, do hereby congratulate Sibling Cities USA on its second anniversary and proclaim Saturday, June 1st, 2024, SIBLING CITIES USA DAY in Palo Alto.
