HONORING LOUIS OLAVE, JR.
WHEREAS, Louie Olave, a resident of the Barron Park neighborhood, has for many decades provided amazing and
dedicated service to ensure our streets are litter-free and has created and maintained a network of heartfelt neighborhood
connections. Barron Park is more attractive due to his work, and
WHEREAS, Louie always shows compassion and care for his friends and neighbors; he checks up on those who live
alone and/or are facing many personal challenges. Louie maintains an awareness of who is vulnerable and helps and supports
them or links them with people and services who can; and
WHEREAS, Louie started emptying trash and litter as a kid, he continues to this day. Earlier in his life, he was also a
climate activist and still holds strong beliefs about how humans should be stewards and not destroyers of the environment.
Louis also supports poll workers and the protection of voters’ rights; and
WHEREAS, Louie is the local embodiment of Mr. Rogers, who always said, “Will you be my neighbor?” Louie walks
the walk and reinforces the importance of building relationships to help one another. He is warm and engaging; he smiles
and greets everyone. These characteristics are enhanced by his robust sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, every neighborhood should have a person like Louie to create a more attractive, friendly, and inclusive
community. We are grateful for Louie Olave and thank him for his decades of commitment to building relationships and
improving our neighborhood.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Greer Stone, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby
commend Louie Olave for his years of dedication and excellent service to the Palo Alto community.
