HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-02-26 Cathy Pan HONORING CATHY PAN WHEREAS, the City of Palo Alto was pleased to host Cathy Pan at its Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, February 10, 2024; and WHEREAS, Cathy Pan, founder of Cathy Jewelry, began performing on stage at the age of 4, won the International Little Song King Competition at 8 and secured four consecutive championships in the Guangzhou Primary and Secondary School Cantonese Opera Competition; and WHEREAS, in recent years, she has collaborated with her students, Haley and Hannah, twin winners of the All-American Dance Competition, to interpret the classic Chinese opera "Drunken Concubine"; and WHEREAS, Passionate about Chinese classical culture, Cathy, joined the Northern California Hanfu Society and became a key member, leading dances and choreographing performances; and WHEREAS, actively engaged in community activities, she showcased Cantonese opera and Hanfu culture at various events, including the 2022 EVA TAM 40th Anniversary Cantonese Opera Gala, Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, the Maotai Reception at the San Francisco Art Palace, and Stanford's Hanfu performance for the New Year; and WHEREAS, Cathy actively supports and promotes Chinese culture. She contributed significantly to events like the OMG Mid-Autumn Festival and China Night in San Francisco and San Jose by donating her brand's exquisite jewelry as well as sponsoring drinking water; and WHEREAS, Cathy’s steadfast dedication to promoting the tradition of Cantonese opera in Palo Alto and the San Francisco Bay Area allows all residents to enjoy this art from. NOW, THEREFORE I, Greer Stone, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, do hereby commend Cathy Pan for her exceptional contributions to the cultural heritage of Cantonese opera in the San Francisco Bay Area.
