HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-01-08 Lydia KouexáÉÄâà|ÉÇ  EXPRESSING APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE TO LYDIA KOU FOR SERVING AS MAYOR IN 2023 WHEREAS, Lydia Kou was first elected to the Palo Alto City Council in 2016, was re-elected in 2020, served as Vice Mayor in 2022 and as Mayor in 2023; and WHEREAS, in 2023 Lydia represented the City Council on regional bodies like the Cities Association of Santa Clara County, served on the City Council’s Cubberley and Sobrato Ad Hoc Committees, and served as the Council liaison to the Historic Resources Board; and WHEREAS, Lydia is a staunch advocate for local control of planning and development, opposing state legislation that could erode Palo Alto’s quality of life and environment; and WHEREAS, in 2023 the Council adopted a budget that enhanced quality of life services such as increasing library hours, expanding the dark fiber optic network and Fiber to the Premises, and boosting public safety services; and WHEREAS, the Council invested significantly in infrastructure projects like the Public Safety Building, the Mitchell Park Fire Station, the Regional Water Quality Control Plant, and multiple park improvement projects; and WHEREAS, Lydia’s tenure as Mayor exemplifies her integrity, passion and dedication toward the betterment of Palo Alto, its residents and its business community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palo Alto does hereby honor and commend Lydia for her outstanding public service, and records the appreciation of the Council, residents, and businesses for her meritorious service and commitment as a Palo Alto Mayor.
