HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-05-22 - Birge ClarkProclamation __________________________ Lydia Kou Mayor Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of Birge Clark’s Architectural Practice WHEREAS, in 1922, Birge Clark established his architectural practice in Palo Alto, marking the beginning of a career that lasted over fifty years and profoundly influenced the architecture of Palo Alto; and WHEREAS, Birge Clark designed hundreds of buildings in Palo Alto and Stanford, including many prominent public buildings and three buildings that are now on the National Register of Historic Places; and WHEREAS, Birge Clark taught architecture for over two decades at Stanford University and was elected to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects; and WHEREAS, Birge Clark made significant contributions to the preservation of Palo Alto’s architectural history as an inaugural member of the Historic Resources Board; and WHEREAS, Birge Clark’s designs and the legacy of his work are an enduring and significant part of Palo Alto’s architectural heritage. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lydia Kou, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto on behalf of the entire City Council do hereby recognize the Birge Clark’s contribution to Palo Alto’s architectural history on the hundredth anniversary of the founding of his architectural practice.
