Support of Middle School Wrestling
WHEREAS, today we are gathering at Gunn High School in Palo Alto to watch and cheer these
Middle School warriors from around the San Francisco Bay Area, who confront their fears as well as
their opponents in today’s league championship; and
WHEREAS, the recent success of Beanie Jose, Cade Creighton, and Ella Jauregui in representing
Palo Alto at the State wrestling tournament demonstrate the value of perseverance in the face of national
crisis; and
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Unified School District is blessed with head coaches Braumon Creighton
and Jonathan Kessler, who guide our youth from middle school through high school, building
outstanding people as well as winning wrestlers;
WHEREAS, the Bay Area is experiencing a reassurance in wrestling at the highest levels, with
Stanford head coach Rob Koll rebuilding wrestling at the Farm and the broader Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto wrestling community rebuilds in the tall shadow of Olympic gold medal
legends David and Mark Schultz; and
WHEREAS, the community Moms, Dads, Sisters, Brothers, Grandmas and Grandpas serve as hosts,
sponsors, tournament workers and (most importantly) drivers in service of these children and this sport;
and
WHEREAS, Wrestlers and their families have travelled from around the peninsula to join us today
in this demonstration of athleticism, skill, growth and grit;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lydia Kou, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto on behalf of the entire City
Council do hereby proclaim our support and enthusiasm for all middle school wrestlers competing today.
We honor the sacrifices made by everyone present at the tournament, all in the pursuit of excellence.
