RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO PATRICIA M. BRIGGS UPON HER RETIREMENT WHEREAS, Patricia M. Briggs has served as the Director of the Children’s Theatre for 48 years, and has been an outstanding City employee respected by Staff, the City Council, and the community for her abilities to mentor, follow, and lead with fairness and objectivity; and has served three times as co-interim Director, Arts and Sciences, and on numerous City committees; and WHEREAS, Patricia M. Briggs was instrumental in developing a model for the Public Private Partnership with the City of Palo Alto and the Friends of the Children’s Theatre, which resulted in over a million dollars of infrastructure including the Roy A. Ginsburg Magic Castle, the Gary Wang Library/Studio and Ira Kushlan Shop, and the John Northway Dormouse Black Box Theatre; and WHEREAS, Patricia M. Briggs has received the following: Resolution of Appreciation, Board of Education PAUSD; Resolution by the Honorable Byron Sher, Twenty-First Assembly District; 30th Anniversary Recognition by The Friends of the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre; Proclamations, City Council; MTI Music Theatre International; California State Senate; Resolution by the Honorable Joseph Simitian, Twenty-First Assembly District; In the House of Representative Anna Eshoo; Resolution, California Legislature; Proclamation, Avenidas Lifetime of Achievement Award, 2006; Resolution, California Legislature 2006; California Legislature - Woman of the Year, 2003; Paul Emerson Arts award by the CAPA in 1981; PAUSD “Sweetheart” Award for her work with special needs children; and WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre Staff under the leadership of Patricia M. Briggs and Michael Litfin received the Palo Alto Tall Tree Award in 1997; and WHEREAS, Patricia M. Briggs was honored by the Friends who sought, and were granted, City permission to name the Children’s Theatre Auditorium in her honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby gratefully records its appreciation, as well as the appreciation of the citizens of this community, for the outstanding public service rendered by Patricia M. Briggs, along with our best wishes for a rewarding and fulfilling life during retirement.
